Subcision is a safe in-office procedure that is designed to improve the appearance of depressed or textural acne scars. It is a subcutaneous surgery done by injection rather than incision. A needle or cannula is inserted through the skin’s surface and used to break the fibrous strands of fibrous tissue causing the inverted scar. This trauma releases the scar and also stimulates some new collagen remodeling. Subcision for acne scars is often combined with other treatments including Frax1550 skin resurfacing, acne surgery and PRP and sometimes filler to obtain optimal results. Subcision is well tolerated. Patients may experience some swelling and mild bruising that lasts several hours to days.
